We are delighted to introduce you to our Clinical Manager, Nicky Rijns.

Nicky has been a mainstay of the healthcare industry for more than 20 years now, serving at the Mercy Ascot hospital, Ryman Healthcare and now here, at Rawhiti Estate.

She is well-known throughout Auckland’s retirement village industry as one of the premier examples of caring for her residents and people, earning herself the Kindness Award during her time at Ryman Healthcare.

Nicky hails from South Africa and earned her BSC in Nursing from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, one of the top-ranking institutions in the nation. From there, Nicky had no intention of slowing down, earning qualifications in midwifery, community health and psychiatric nursing. Here in New Zealand she has built on her knowledge, delivering a premier level of care while developing her own wellbeing philosophy.

Since joining us, Nicky has quickly established herself as the go-to person in our care department while creating her very own wellness clinic offering one-on-one health check-ups, medical advice, or even just a friendly ear.

Nicky is a great believer in health checks to support wellbeing, given the role good health plays in an active and enjoyable retirement. Routine checks can help identify chronic issues such as diabetes and osteoporosis and early intervention can ensure early management. With winter coming, Nicky also encourages our residents to take advantage of the immunisations available for the flu and conditions such as shingles.

We’re all for wellness and we are proud to have her as part of our wonderful team here.
