We are delighted to introduce Senior Associate Loren Gerbich from law firm Martelli McKegg, who will join us on 19 June at 10:30am to talk about preparing for retirement.

Loren has considerable experience advising clients on how to manage their personal wealth and ensure their affairs are in order so they can have peace of mind when they retire.

“I work closely with my clients on their entrance to retirement villages and rest homes, and any subsidies that they may be entitled to when they move. I also help them set up an enduring power of attorney, and organise their trusts and wills,” says Loren.

“Moving into a retirement village is a significant step in anyone’s life.  It is all about making the experience easier by having good legal advice and being well prepared.

“For example, retirement village occupation right agreements and licences to occupy can be quite complex and lengthy.

“It is important that these documents are comprehensive. It is equally important that they are properly reviewed and completed. My job is to help clients navigate and understand them,” she says.

“Before joining a retirement village community, it is also critical to have the means of funding your stay.”

Loren said there are also some formal matters that need to be addressed before moving into a retirement village or rest home.

“I recommend having an up to date will and enduring power of attorney.  These are necessities for those moving out of their home and into a place like Rawhiti Estate.

“Before joining a retirement village community, it is also critical to have the means of funding your stay.”

Loren’s presentation in June will go into greater depth about preparing for retirement, planning for financial stability, and navigating the legal requirements of entering a retirement village.

“I encourage people to come along, listen and ask questions.  By gaining this sort of information now, people can save themselves a few headaches in the future.”
